Graduated from the Medical University of Warsaw in 2007. From 2009 to 2010, worked at the Gastroenterology Clinic of the Military Institute of Medicine in Warsaw. From 2010 to 2013, was employed at the Gastroenterology Ward of the Bielański Hospital. In 2014, obtained the title of specialist in internal medicine and commenced specialist training in gastroenterology at the Clinic of Gastroenterology and Paediatric Nutrition of the Medical University of Warsaw.
In 2017, obtained the title of specialist gastroenterologist. Since 2016, has been conducting classes for students of the Medical University of Warsaw. From 2014 to 2015, worked at the Emergency Department of the Military Institute of Medicine.
In the course of his work and training, performs approximately one thousand gastroscopies and colonoscopies annually, including endoscopic polypectomy, gastrointestinal stricture dilation, coagulation of radiation-induced lesions, and haemostasis of gastrointestinal bleeding.
Dr Łukasz Szwed performs gastrointestinal ultrasound examinations (USG), including ultrasound assessment of the gastric and intestinal walls. He is one of the few physicians performing 24-hour oesophageal pH-impedance monitoring in treatment-resistant gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.
Participates in numerous national and international symposia and conferences on gastroenterology, endoscopy, and ultrasonography.
In clinical practice, treats patients with gastroenterological conditions — in particular liver failure — and patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis). Consults adults and children from the age of 6 (younger children by prior arrangement). Since 2008, has been co-running the Specialist Endoscopy and Ultrasound Practice of Dr Tadeusz Szwed.
