prof. dr hab. Piotr Socha

Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Warsaw in 1992. Specialist in paediatrics, gastroenterology, paediatric gastroenterology, and transplantology. Was awarded a doctorate in 1997, habilitation in 2003, and the title of professor in 2011.

Employed as professor at the Clinic of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Nutritional Disorders and Paediatrics, and serves as Deputy Director for Science at the Children's Memorial Health Institute (CMHI) in Warsaw, which is the reference paediatric hospital for Poland.

From 2010 to 2013, chaired the Hepatology Committee of ESPGHAN. From 2015 to 2018, served as Scientific Secretary of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. From 2010 to 2016, served as president of the Polish Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.

Prof. Socha is the author and co-author of over 400 peer-reviewed articles (approximately 200 indexed in PubMed) and author of over 40 book chapters. Has participated in 8 European Union scientific projects.

Research interests: cholestatic liver disease; non-alcoholic fatty liver disease; rare metabolic liver diseases (e.g. Wilson's disease, the newly described PGM-1 deficiency); nutrition in hepatology and gastroenterology (e.g. LCPUFA deficiency); prevention and treatment of obesity; therapy of feeding disorders; chronic diarrhoea in infants and young children.
